Allergic rhinitis is also known as hay fever in common language, is a nose condition which has cold-like signs and symptoms such as runny nose, watery eyes etc. But unlike cold hay fever is not caused by any type of virus. As its name reflects, hay fever is caused due to allergic response to airborne substances such as pollen, dust or tiny flecks of skin and saliva shed by cats, dogs and any other animals with fur or feathers. Best way to treat hay fever is to identify the cause of allergy. The substance which causes the allergy is known as allergen.It is a disease most common in children under the age of 17. Individuals having hay fever experience inflammation in the nose.

There are two types of hay fever: Seasonal and Perennial. When a person is allergic in a particular season then he/she has the seasonal hay fever. However, when the person is allergic throughout the year irrespective of the season then the person is suffering from perennial hay fever. People who have/had any relative suffering with hay fever then they have high risk of suffering with hay fever. Individuals having asthma or those children who are exposed to smoke have a higher risk of suffering from hay fever. As compared to females, male are more prone to this nose condition.

Symptoms of allergic rhinitis are:

• Headache.


• Runny nose.


• Itchy nose.


• Red eyes.


• Itchy throat.


• Watery eyes and sneezing.


• Loss of smell and taste.


• Facial pain due to blocked sinuses, itchiness, tiredness and irritability.


• Insomnia.
